Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary.
Mahatma Gandhi
The short answer is: One does not have
to be. There are countless other causes in this world which deserve our
attention. Becoming active elsewhere satisfies moral obligations just
as much. Everyone cannot solve all the problems but we all can work on
something.
The long answer is that U.S. citizens
bear particular responsibility for the oppression of millions of
Palestinians. At the same time the solution to the problem is apparent
to everyone intimately familiar with it. The U.S. has a moral
imperative to reverse course of its current policies as it functions as
an enabler of Israel's dysfunctional ideological landscape. The U.S.
has all the means at its disposal to establish an equitable arrangement
and it is up to U.S. citizens to force the hand of the administration
to do so.
So what is this solution to the
Israel/Palestine problem? If it is so simple, why has it not transpired
and why the endless peace talks and road maps and accords with
literally no results? Why is it that the upcoming peace summit is
generally perceived with much skepticism?
